Morning run

Grassy wet sneakers squeak

Crunching with each step I take

Foggy street lamps casting shadows

Wild animals rustle fearful of me

Shivering bushes shake

Earbuds blasting highs and 808 lows

Panting uphill pushing my feet

Mind refusing to break

Peace in my heartbeat breathing heavier and slow

Throbbing thighs digging deep

I know it’s easier to pace

But today I want more I work to explode

I see an end with a ribbon in reach

Life’s rarest stake

Sweat beading on a fall morning that’s cold

Work and strength, a winners peace

So I relax my hands and face

Waiting for my body to catch up to my soul…
